Keeping plants happy in Kuwait’s summer
Intense sun, high temperatures and dry indoor air are tough on plants. A few habits help them through the hottest months.

Kuwait’s summers are hard on plants, both outdoors in the heat and indoors in air-conditioned rooms. The good news is that a few simple habits make a big difference.
Outdoor plants
- Water early in the morning or in the evening, when less water is lost to the heat
- Give plants afternoon shade, for example with a shade cloth, or by moving pots out of direct midday sun
- Add a layer of mulch on top of the soil to keep roots cooler and moist for longer
- Choose heat-tolerant plants for spots that get full sun
Indoor plants
- Keep plants away from air-conditioning vents, which blow dry, cold air directly onto leaves
- Group plants together to raise the humidity around them
- Bright windows can scorch leaves in summer: move sensitive plants back a little or use a sheer curtain
When you travel
Before a trip, water thoroughly and move plants away from the hottest windows. Grouping pots on a tray of damp pebbles helps them stay moist for longer.
